The Georgia Department of Agriculture gave thousands of dollars Tuesday to 19 animal shelters across Georgia.
Georgia agriculture commissioner Gary Black, along with his department, presented spay and neuter grants ranging from $2500 to $7500 to shelters as a part of the "dog and cat sterilization program."
Funding from the program comes from donations and the purchase of the dog and cat sterilization license plates.
Commissioner Black says this program is vital because it will target and aid communities across the state.
"What we've really wanted to focus on is rather than just having monthly procedures that are available to our wonderful vets around the state. We want to work with some communities directly and have the grants go directly to real good communities that have a good plan" added Black.
