Dental office donates 'Smiles for Freedom' to local veterans
More than 50 South Georgia veterans will be entering the weekend with a clean smile and hopefully a clean bill of health.
They were give free dental work Friday at North Valdosta Dental Care through its second annual "Smiles for Freedom" event.
The office said they heard of the program from another practice in Nevada that organized it and decided to bring it to South Georgia, especially with their proximity to Moody Air Force Base.
Last year, they said they gave away more than $26,000 worth of free care, including cleanings, extractions and fillings, and hoped to top that this year.
Dr. Brad Bynum was also joined this year by Dr. Denton Hardie of Albany, along with a few members of his staff.
"It's just really rewarding to hear these guys' stories," Dr. Bynum said. "We ask them what branch of service they were in, where they served and all their experiences, and it's just great, and they're so appreciative."
Dr. Bynum said these veterans don't have many dental benefits through the VA, so this is usually a big need.
If you want to give back to American troops, North Valdosta Dental Care is also sending care packages overseas.
You can drop off items like snacks, toiletries, games and batteries at their office at 802 Northwood Park Drive in Valdosta through next week.
