A deceased body found in an unoccupied residence in Cordele has led to an investigation by the Cordele Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation according to CPD's Facebook Page.

CPD says that they received a call about 1:46 p.m. in reference to a body found in the 300 block of West 15th Avenue. The police and GBI Crime Scene Unit were on the scene most of the day investigating the cause of death.

At a press conference CPD told FOX 31 the identity of the subject will not be released. The coroner took recovery of the body and an autopsy will be done.

CPD adds that the body had been decomposing and appeared to be there for awhile. CPD officials add that they were told by the realty company that it has been five years since someone officially lived in the house.
