Friday afternoon thunderstorms are predicted to pass through southwest Georgia.

Officials say homeowners should prepare now in order to avoid damage.

If you have large trees with dead limbs in your yard, make sure to have those limbs cut down. They can cause damage to your roof or car if storm winds are strong enough.

Official also say make sure to keep tuned to the weather forecast to know where the storms are located.

"If you're outside of course you always want to get inside in the event of a thunderstorm and if you're on the water try to get to land and shelter," said Paul Branch, Asst. Fire Chief for the Lee County Fire Department.

He says if you have to go out try to plan your activities around the weather.
