This is the last weekend before school starts back for many students and before returning, one Tifton woman held her annual day of prayer.

Kenyatta Belton, local pastors and other members of the community gather at every school in Tift County to pray for protection, provision and productivity.

The Tift County Board of Commissioners proclaimed the Saturday before the beginning of the school year as a day of prayer for the schools in 2011. The City of Tifton also presented a proclamation last year.

"It is so important for us to come out and pray to cover our schools each year because we have been blessed," Belton said. "We don't have the things that happen in other school districts. No violence is occurring in Tift County. That's because God is covering us. Our students are achieving. That's because God is helping them to be productive."

Tift County schools start back Thursday, August 7.
