Dawson police put protection plan in place for mayor

In Thursday's night Dawson city county meeting, William J. Godfrey, the lawyer for Mayor Christopher Wright, approached the city council requesting protection for the injured mayor.

City council officials passed a vote in early November denying 24 hour protection.

However during the meeting, they explained to the family's lawyer that there is a plan in place for protecting the mayor and that he has received security.

Godfrey says he has not received the plan, but he is grateful that the police department is making provisions for Christopher Wright.

Dawson Police Chief Charlie Whitehead says they have been providing protection prior to Thursday's meeting and they will continue to do so. However, they will not release specific details about the plan due to the seriousness of the issue.
