Crooks target firearms in weekend crime spree
Lee County Sheriff's officials worked nine entering autos over the weekend. Six of those incidents were in a neighborhood off Philema Road.
In the majority of the cases, thieves broke out the windows to steal items left out in the open.
The criminals got away with guns and purses.
Deputies recovered one of the stolen guns and are trying to catch up with a suspect.
Residents are advised to lock their car doors and hide their personal items.
"I know we've preached time and time again about keeping your vehicles locked but at the same time if you're going to lock your vehicles, hide your stuff. Put it somewhere where it cannot be viewed or take it inside the house," said Sheriff Reggie Rachals, Lee County Sheriff's Office.
