      Crisp County Sheriff passes after battle with cancer

      Rainey said Haralson passed sometime on Tuesday. Haralson was recently placed on hospice following a 10-year battle with renal cell carcinoma.

      Funeral services for Sheriff Haralson will be held Friday, March 7, 2014 at 4 p.m. at Cordele First Baptist Church.

      Those wanting to pay their respects to the sheriff may do so Friday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the church.

      Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to make a memorial donation in Donnie's memory to the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes. Donations can be made online at www.georgiasheriffsyouth.org, or by mailing to: Memorial/Tribute Fund, Georgia Sheriff's Association, Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes P.O.       FOX 31 has confirmed with Crisp County Coroner J.D. Rainey the passing of former Crisp County Sheriff Donnie Haralson.

      Rainey said Haralson passed sometime on Tuesday. Haralson was recently placed on hospice following a 10-year battle with renal cell carcinoma.

      He was placed on hospice so that someone would be there to help administer his medication and help his wife with the day to day care.

      Haralson served in law enforcement for over 30 years.
