Crisp County man killed in train accident
A man hit by a train Friday in Cordele has been identified.
The Crisp County Sheriff's Office was notified Friday afternoon that a Norfolk Southern Railroad train hit an individual on the tracks about two miles south of Cordele.
Norfolk Southern Railroad employees locked the train down into emergency mode after the individual did not respond to bells or train whistles, however the train could not stop in time.
While investigators were working the scene, officers with the Cordele Police Department responded to the 400 block of East 27th Avenue in reference to a missing male suffering from dementia.
Investigators were able to determine that the man struck was in fact Oscar Ford Jr., who had wondered from his residence on East 27th Avenue.
Sheriff Billy Hancock states, "this is a tragic accident and my thoughts and prayers are with the family."
