Crisp County remembers fallen officers
Seven officers killed in the line of duty who worked in Crisp County may be gone but weren’t forgotten on Friday.
The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Memorial Service remembered fallen officers for the third-straight year.
The most recent officer killed in the line of duty, Deputy Daryl Smallwood, was killed in Nov. 8 2016 while working for the Peach County Sheriff’s Office.
Prior to joining to force in Peach County, Smallwood spent five years with the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office.
“He could come into a situation and still just pacify[it]. Get everybody calm. He had a good demeanor about himself. He always had a smile,” said Major Joey Arzola with CCSO.
Brandy Mason, Smallwood’s cousin, said it’s been tough getting through losing him but seeing him honored and how loved he was helps keep his spirit alive.
“Instead of crying and getting down all the time try to let him live through me. You know… happy,” said Mason. “How he would want us to live.”
