Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said an investigation by his office into a Wednesday afternoon fire that killed a Crisp County man appears accidental.
Moses Jimmerson, 76, died in the fire at 307 West 28th Avenue, Cordele, Ga. Fire Investigators believe the fire was caused by unattended food left cooking on the stove.
Hudgens said the home was destroyed by the blaze. The fire call was reported at 7:41 p.m.
"My investigator found nothing suspicious about the origin of this tragic fire," Hudgens said. "Jimmerson was alone at the time of the fire and the home had no working smoke alarms."
This is the 114th reported fire fatal in Georgia for 2013. Sixteen of those deaths are a direct result of unattended cooking.
