County officials are looking to make a change to an area they're referring to as dangerous.

The $529,483 SPLOST (Special Local Option Sales Tax) funded project is to widen Fleming Road. What they're working on now is Phase I which is Mock Road to Short Road.

With the heavy traffic in the area due to the amount of people coming and going from the Marine Corps Logistics Base, officials say this will improve the safety of many.

Chairman Jeff Sinyard also told FOX 31, "and by us doing programs like Fleming Road, the widening and the signalization and getting employees in and out, it sends a signal that we're working together as a community with our base."

Public Works director Larry Cook says the contractors are ready to get to work. They have a 120 day contract.
