Business owners who open up for shop in areas around the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany are eligible for a tax credit.
As long as business owners create two new jobs, they will get a $3,500 per-job tax credit for five years as long as they maintain the jobs. Areas around the MCLB cover parts of Dougherty , Lee and Worth counties and are considered "less developed areas", having a poverty rate of 15%. Economic Development Commission president, Ted Clem says those areas have been deteriorating.
Clem says this will bring "new activity, new investment and new jobs" to the areas in and around the base.
