Second Update (3/25/13)
Albany Fire Department Chief James Carswell has announced the cause of the weekend fire that claimed a life is believed to be due to smoking.

Officials say that after further investigation, her smoking materials such as ashtrays were found beside her bed.

Officials with the Albany Police Department say it was the body of a 66-year-old white female that was discovered while putting out the fire.

Officials also say the Robbery/Homicide Unit and an arson investigator are on scene.

The Albany Fire Department responded to a call around 9:00 this morning at 717 4th Avenue.

Officials say the coroner was called to the scene but no fatalities have been confirmed.

Battalion Chief Daniel Potter with the fire department said they were able to get the fire out within minutes, but there is still extensive interior damage. Potter doesn't suspect foul play as of right now but says it is still under investigation.

Potter believes the fire originated in the bedroom of the house and says only one person was inside.
