CNN is reporting that an attorney for the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office says that an anonymous e-mail claiming someone confessed to killing Kendrick Johnson is not credible according to Sheriff's officials.
In the January 2014 email, the sender claims a former schoolmate confessed to killing Johnson, but the sender doesn't say that he or she witnessed the confession.
The attorney didn't say why or how investigators determined the tip wasn't credible.
Johnson's body was found in a rolled-up mat in the Lowndes high school gymnasium last year.
Investigators ruled his death accidental, but an independent pathologist called it a homicide.
