Community work day set to beautify local historic site
Friends of Jefferson Davis Memorial Historic Site will have a volunteer work day Saturday morning.
The work day was created to have the community come together to beautify the entrance, fence-line and driveway of the park.
The historic site faced threats of closing, but the park is set to stay open until at least 2019, according to Park Manager John Hughes.
Located in Irwinville, the site marks the space where Jefferson Davis was captured in 1865.
Jefferson Davis was the president of the Confederate United States during the Civil War.
