Community ties one on for cancer

To help raise money, Cancer Ties sold ties at the door

Tying one on for cancer.

That's the slogan for Cancer Ties, the annual event that supports a local cancer patient. This is the event's fourth year supporting a local cancer patient by wearing crazy ties. The ties signify a person's tie or link to cancer. This year the group is raising money for Lee County business owner Jamie Taylor.

The first Cancer Ties was held for breast cancer patient Allison Salter. It started out as a smaller occasion that her friends put together and has now blossomed into a yearly tradition.

"It was supposed to be just a onetime event but the community supported it so well and it was so well attended we have decided to make it an annual thing with a different beneficiary every year," says Salter, who is now on the Cancer Ties Committee.

A cash bar and selling ties were some of the ways Cancer Ties raised money this evening.
