Community celebrates Mardi Gras in downtown Albany
Mardi Gras 2014 is happening Saturday in downtown Albany.
Over 40 vendors and activities are set up for the entire family.
Tommy Gregors, volunteer coordinator, says although it's about family and fun for Albany, it's about showcasing downtown. One of the buildings added into the Mardi Gras block this year is the Flint RiverQuarium.
Gregors says 15,000 people showed up to Mardi Gras last year, less than the 30,000 the year before that. He adds the low numbers last year were due to the horrible weather and he's expecting a little over 40,000 people this year.
Proceeds made from this Mardi Gras go into next year's Mardi Gras celebration as well as various non-profit organizations in Albany.
