In a turn of tides, Dougherty County commissioners have voted to reopen the Westtown library.
The library will open for 16 hours per week at a cost of $68,000.
The Dougherty County Finance Committee voted this past Friday to deny funding $150,000 to reopen Westtown.
When the issue came before the Commission for a final vote, Commissioners Gloria Gaines, John Hayes, Clinton Johnson, and Jack Stone voted on an option to reopen the library for shorter hours.
Gaines stated "we find money to fund the jail but when its time to fund libraries, no one can find a way to fund it."
The money to fund the reopening will come from the reserve fund.
Commissioners hope to have the facility open during after school hours so that it will be beneficial to students.
