Commission considers renaming highway after fallen marine
After months of trying, a group has gotten a motion on the Lee County Commission agenda to rename a piece of U.S. Highway 19 after Lance Corporal Steve Sutton.
Though it would ultimately have to be approved by the state, Commission Chair Rick Muggridge says the goal is to have both the county and city approve the motion before presenting it to Representative Ed Rynders.
"I want to make sure that people understand that it is a memorial renaming and so people's addresses on U.S. 19 wouldn't change, it would still be U.S. Highway 19 South," said Muggridge.
Also during the same meeting, commissioners voted to approve $30,000 of unforeseen costs on the repaving of Ledo Road and also spoke about a new ordinance to purchase used equipment costing less than $50,000 without accepting bids first.
That ordinance and the renaming of the highway will be presented during the next meeting in November.
