Colquitt schools expect big savings from energy overhaul
A local school system is expecting to save almost $20 million with a new energy efficiency plan.
ABM Industries started the project in Colquitt County schools earlier this summer. Students and staff at all schools will see new heating and air units, electric hand dryers and low flow toilets, for example.
"Four hundred plus cracks that ABM noticed, not seals around windows but literally cracks where obviously energy can escape," Colquitt County Superintendent Samuel DePaul said. "We'll have all new lighting throughout the whole county. Every school building has new lighting fixtures with new energy efficient lighting."
The school system hopes to have all of the improvements made in the next 18 months.
