Cold weather causes blood shortage
The cold weather has caused a host of problems for many people across the country in the past week, and one more thing to add to that list is a shortage of blood.
According to Leana Thomas, the team supervisor at the Albany Red Cross Donor Center, nearly 280 blood drives across 25 states have been canceled due to the cold weather.
Thomas says the cancellations resulted in a shortfall of nearly 8,400 blood and platelet donations since January 2nd.
As for what residents here can do, Thomas encourages people in areas like Albany that aren't as heavily affected by the weather to step up to the plate and donate blood.
