      Cock fighting produces 16 arrests

      The Tift County Sheriff's Office released the name of 16 individuals involved in a cock fighting ring near Tifton, Georgia.

      Tift County Animal Control officials report that an anonymous call reported the ring to police, with a Tift County Sheriff's Deputy first on scene.

      Animal Control stated they have recovered 35 chickens, with 6 of them being brought in with serious injuries. It was also reported that several dead chickens were found in a field nearby.

      Officials with Animal Control say they are currently working to have the chickens transported to Maryland, to an organization that houses abused animals and allows them to live out the rest of their days in peace.

      Below is a list of the 16 individuals arrested on Sunday in reference to the cock fighting ring:


      34-year-old Juan-Carolos Ramirez, 26-year-old Teodoro Huerta-Lopez, and 31-year-old Rolando Gonzalez have been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals & obstruction without force.

      32-year-old Jesus Calvillo Hernandez, 23-year-old Mauricio Huerta-Lopez, 24-year-old Jose Huerta, 26-year-old Perciliano Calvillo, 27-year-old Omar Pablo Reyes, 46-year-old Jose Calvan, 29-year-old Jaime Santa Marie, 35-year-old Gonzalez Antonio Trejo, 27-year-old Modesto Huerta, 32-year-old Ismael Huerta, 27-year-old Javier Soto, 25-year-old Leonel Caville, and 31-year-old Dwayne Ulysses Cherry have all been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.
