A cleanup project that was scheduled to begin on Monday has been postponed. After Southwest Georgia experienced heavy rain the last two days, crews were forced to hold off on digging till the rain stopped.
The cleanup is on a former gas plant, near Society Road, and officials with the project say they're excited to get underway.
"Barring anymore rain, then on Monday they will start some investigative digging and that will put us two and a half weeks ahead of schedule so we're real proud of that," said Water Gas & Light, Assistant General Manager, Lorie Farkas.
Water Gas & Light has projected the cleanup to cost between $5 million and $10 million dollars, but are hopeful to keep the price tag on the low end of the spectrum.
