The City of Albany has announced that JoEllen Brophy has emerged as the best qualified candidate for the Albany Chief Financial Officer position, Albany City Manager James Taylor announced Friday.
The CFO position is a new position to oversee, manage, administer and direct all aspects of Corporate Financial Operations to include government, and business enterprises (City and Water, Gas & Light), sanitary sewer, storm water, etc. This position works with wide latitude under general guidelines from the City Manager. The CFO must be able to provide the government and business enterprises with accurate financial information to ensure that financial/budgetary decisions are based on fact, and provide accurate forecasting of future financial conditions and advise the City Manager.
Brophy is currently Interim Director of Finance for the City of Albany. She has served in the city's Finance Department since 2010. Prior to that, she has held several different positions in the accounting field for ten years. She served in the US Air Force for six years, as well.
Ms. Brophy completed an Accounting degree from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
The City is providing public notice of Mr. Taylor's decision on the best qualified candidate in compliance with Georgia's open records law. At least 14 days must now pass before there is final action on selecting the Chief Financial Officer.
