City Commission hears Heritage House options

Arthur Williams says the blight is scaring away customers from downtown businesses

Some say the Heritage House on Oglethorpe Boulevard is an eyesore, even scaring away customers from downtown.

The City will soon take action on it. They were given a few options in Tuesday's meeting, including taking the land by imminent domain. However, if that's the case, it would take the land off the tax rolls and the land would have to be used for public use, such as a library or park.

"It's a lot of people that be standing around that be over here and customers don't feel like coming, they don't feel comfortable. If they tear it down, it's just gonna be a big empty spot and then people start throwing trash in it, putting cars in it," Says Arthur Williams, who visits the Krystal across the street from the Heritage House every day.

The City will make a decision early this summer.
