Albany's Board of City Commissioners voted against two rezoning proposals to make some property on Old Dawson Road into apartment complexes and living areas on Tuesday evening after holding a public hearing on the issue.
Many residents stepped forward to talk about their concerns surrounding the proposal and commissioners say they felt that the rezoning would cause more issues than good.
"I felt it that it did diminish the property values of the surrounding homeowners and it also didn't bode well for public safety," said Roger Marietta.
Those for the rezoning also spoke saying that traffic is just a part of life and the added living spaces would bring in a lot of tax revenue for the area.
The property owners can either appeal the decision or restructure their proposal and bring it before the board again at a later date.
