Child death investigation in Albany

Officials with the Albany Police Department have confirmed that the babysitter of Ja'Kobian Davis has been charged with murder in the first degree, and first degree cruelty to a child.
The babysitter is Demeatria Porter of Dougherty County, and officials are continuing their investigation at this time.

The death of 6-month-old Ja'Kobian Davis has been ruled a homicide according to Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler.
The cause death is blunt force trauma to the head that caused hemorrhaging in the Davis' brain.
When Fowler arrived to the duplex apartment on Marie Avenue, the infant was pronounced dead on scene.
Fowler said he is not releasing the name of the suspect, but that questioning and investigations are ongoing.
Officials are investigating after a 6-month-old baby dies while in the custody of a babysitter.
The incident happened at a home in the 200 block of Marie Avenue in east Albany.
Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler says the child died Sunday morning. He says 911 dispatchers were contacted about the death around 10:00AM.
Ja'Kobian Davis' parents were out of town when the incident occurred.
An autopsy was performed on the child Tuesday morning at the GBI Crime Lab in Macon.
At this time, officials say there appears to be no signs of foul play but the case is under investigation pending autopsy results.
No charges have been filed at this time.
