Chehaw asks public to name new emus

Emus at Chehaw Zoo.

Chehaw Zoo officials are asking the public to come up with the names of their two baby emus.

The Australian long-legs made their debut into the world at Chehaw Wild Animal park in early March. They are now available for visitors to view, but they need a name first.

Chehaw is asking the public to come up with a name that has an Australian flare. The winner of the contest will win a free lunch at the zoo with Kevin Mils, Chehaw Zoo director, and have a chance to meet and pet the baby emus.

To submit a suggestion, send an email to or mail it in to Tonya Hart at 105 Chehaw Park Road, Albany, Georgia, 31707.

The naming contest will be open until June 1, 2011.
