Center and statue of former First Lady unveiled at GSW

Carter says never in her wildest dreams did she think she would have a center at her alma mater named after her and it's a true honor.

Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter and President Jimmy Carter were at Georgia Southwestern State University Thursday afternoon for the second and final unveiling of the Rosalynn Carter health and human sciences complex.The two-building facility had its first dedication in August, but Thursday's ceremony marked the completion of the center and highlighted the second building, a 35,000 square foot facility that houses the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving as well as the psychology and sociology departments.Carter says never in her wildest dreams did she think she would have a center at her alma mater named after her and it's a true honor.Carter thanked her family and President Carter for always allowing her to do what she wanted and pursue her dreams in the caregiving field.Following the center's ribbon cutting, the group then went outside to have the final dedication, which was in the form of a bronze statue of the former First Lady herself.
