Laureen Kelly with the Albany Law Library went before city commissioners Tuesday morning to ask for an increase in case fees.
The commission passed an increase that will take the $2 fee to $5 but not without discussion.
Kelly stressed how expensive materials are getting, she's facing an 11% increase in cost of digital information per year. Some of her books are from 2009, which is a disservice to citizens looking for current laws and information.
Right now the library has .03% of the county budget and the increase will take that to .08%.
Jon Howard asked if commissioners would change the increase to $4 rather than $5 because he feels some may not be able to afford it but his request was denied.
The increased fee will bring the library an estimated extra $26,000 per year.
