Car wash raises money for sick boy

Hartwell's family travels to Augusta every week

Some Lee County organizations teamed up for a car wash Saturday, but it wasn't just any car wash. Leesburg Police, Leesburg Lions, and the Lee County Explorers hosted the wash to benefit 6-year old Hartwell Faircloth. Hartwell was recently diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and receives weekly chemotherapy treatments in Augusta. The volunteers were washing cars in exchange for donations, to help Hartwell's family with travel and medical expenses.

Volunteer Gail Webb says they would want the help if the tables were turned. "We have kids and if it were our family or someone we love, we would want someone to pitch in and help us. So we just try to help out in the community where we can," says Webb.

If you missed the car wash but still want to help Hartwell you can click here to donate to his website . Volunteers were thankful for the lot and supplies, donated by Lee County Auto Services.
