Calhoun County students and staff will return to a newer school system this upcoming fall semester.
Members from Mountain Park First Baptist Church in Stone Mountain Georgia are working throughout the week on renovating the elementary, middle, and high schools. This is all free for the school system.
The pastor of Mountain Park First Baptist Church says he chose Calhoun County schools after seeing that there was a need.
So far, the group has replaced all original lighting at all three schools. They've changed ceiling tiles, replaced toilets and toilet seats, washed and painted walls, and built a roof so that cafeteria workers won't have to walk out in the rain for food supplies.
Gwinnett County school engineers and electricians came along for the ride, upgrading electrical needs and fixing exit signs.
Over the course of the week more than 70 people will work on the three schools. Church members are fed at the schools and they sleep in classrooms.
