The Albany Fire Department and the Georgia Forestry Commission are investigating after a fire starts near an illegal dumpsite.

The fire happened in a wooded area off of Silica Drive and Mitchell Avenue Sunday.

Multiple fire trucks and a brush truck were brought in to help douse the fire.

Officials aren't sure how the fire started but they say if someone did this intentionally, there could be major consequences.

Tom Lambert with the Georgia Forestry Commission said, "with arson fires there are penalties for that. You can be charged with a felony. So there are penalties for that sort of thing. If you're going to do any burning, you want to have means of containing it."

No one was hurt.

No nearby structures were damaged.
