Bringing mental health awareness to Southwest Georgia

Understanding mental health and what to look for if someone you know may suffer from it was the goal Saturday in Tifton.

Mental Health First Aid Trainings educated the community with tools on how to spot mental illnesses.

The training was a free eight hour course, and organizers say knowing what mental illness is, is the first step to helping treat others.

April Roberson and trainer with Mental Health First Aid Training says, "so if we have more individuals who are not professionals in the community and know how to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health we can reach more people and they can get treatment."

Southwest GA Area Health Education Center is scheduling all the trainings.

They have more training scheduled in April and May.
