Boy remembered after deadly crash

Family members mourn the loss of 6-year-old Javeion McClendon. / Matt Prichard

The family of 6-year-old Javeion McClendon spent their Saturday remembering, after Javeion was hit by a car and killed on Corn Avenue in Albany.

Conflicting family reports say Javeion was playing near the street one afternoon, when he ran out into traffic and was struck by a car driving by. However, other family members say that Javeion was not near the road until he went to cross the street and was hit by the car.

Now family and friends are asking that more safety signs and speed bumps be put up on the busy street, so something like this can't happen again.

"Just something to slow down traffic a little bit. This is an area that has a lot of little children that are out playing. And I know we need to teach our kids to be safe, but we also want to make this stretch of road safe also," said Javeion's football coach, Jesse Breedlove.

If you would like to donate your money or resources to Javeion's family you can send those to 2709 Gillionville Road, or call at (229) 291-0307.
