The body of Lowndes County High School student Kendrick Johnson has been exhumed according to the family for a second, private autopsy.
Officials with the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office say that if new evidence comes to light from this examination, they will look at it.
The original ruling stated that Kendrick died as a result of positional asphyxia after getting stuck in a mat in the school's gym.
Back in January, an initial autopsy concluded there were no signs of foul play in Johnson's death, however another autopsy will be conducted upon request of the family to confirm or dispute the initial report.
The teen's mother posted on her Facebook page that her son's body was to be exhumed Friday morning at 6:00 AM. Jacquelyn Johnson is asking for support from the community as the family goes through this process.
