According to the Albany Police Department, the body of an unknown black male has been found in the wooded area in the 1800 block of West Town Road. The call came in to police around 12:40 PM.

Representatives from the District Attorney's office and the Dougherty County Coroner's Office worked the scene along with a helicopter from the Georgia State Patrol. Cops canvassed the area on three ATVs.

A local business owner said the area near the railroad tracks is a dumping ground for trash, among other things.

"You wouldn't believe the things that you see back there. I mean there's mattresses back there. There's all kinds of stuff back there," says Caine Williams, the Manager of Flint River Cold Storage.

He says it's not unusual for people to frequent the area, but learning that there was a dead body came as a shock.

"I just heard there was a body found back here. An employee of mine said he saw a vehicle back here and I just wanted to let somebody know," says Caine Williams.

Williams told authorities that one of his employees saw a green GMC pickup truck behind the building around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Authorities say that a male searching the woods for scrap metal came across the body Wednesday morning.

Investigators say the body doesn't look decomposed, and they're treating this as a death investigation. APD will be taking the body to the Macon Crime Lab on Thursday morning for further investigation.

APD is encouraging people that have filed a missing person report since yesterday or are going to fill out a missing person report that matches the description of the person thus far, to call the Albany Police Department's, Robbery-Homicide Unit at 431-3288 or Crime Stoppers at 436-TIPS.
