Blood donations help during the holidays

Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and the American Red Cross came together to host a blood drive Thursday afternoon.

Dian Swafford, Blood Bank Manager, says they need a little over 100 people to donate blood by the end of the day to reach their goal.

Swafford adds they use about 30 â" 50 units of blood every single day, so getting as many people to donate would be ideal.

The blood donated today goes firstly to cancer patients and then to accident victims, which are both essential, especially around the holidays.

The Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital has six blood drives a year and the next one will be held on Feb 20th, in the cafeteria Solarium, on the main campus of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
