Bigger priorities remain for local Pop-Warner

Pop-Warner football looks to dig deep roots in Southwest Georgia kids.

Southwest Georgia Pop Warner held a fundraiser this afternoon at Mellow Mushroom in Albany.

The event looked to give kids a chance to play football, even if financial issues stand in the way. From cleats, to registration fees, officials say they're main goal is to give every kid a chance to get into the game.

However those that head-up the league say playing football isn't the only piece to their motivational puzzle.

"Respect and 100% focus on academics. Football just gets them in the door, everything else we do is bigger than that," said Southwest Georgia Pop-Warner President, Daniel Cruz.

The event continues throughout the day and officials hope everyone will come out and support their young athletes.
