Two Lee County fire buildings that are too far from the main station to become a substation were approved to become the new sites for volunteer firefighters on Monday during a special County Commission meeting to address certain issues.

Later that same meeting commissioners voted to extend an offer to Ron Rabun as the new county manager.

"He has experience in building and infrastructure so I think he'll bring a lot of experience and a new perspective. It's always good to have a different set of eyes looking at your issues," said Commission Chair Rick Muggridge.

Rabun is set to begin the job on Tuesday, where he'll attend a conference in Athens before coming back to Lee County on Wednesday.
