Belk expands while some businesses are closing
In the midst of two local bars closing, one business announced that it is expanding.
Belk in the Albany Mall completed $700,000 worth of projects including an expansion and remodeling of the ladies shoe department and the creations of a new fashion jewelry and accessories area.
The ladies shoe department doubled in size to approximately 7,000 square-feet of space, according to Tony Lewis, Vice President and Regional Manager of Belk's Central Georgia Region.
Lewis says he credits the store's success to catering to their target audience.
"We're able to satisfy the modern, southern lifestyle, we're focused on satisfying the modern southern lifestyle and being our customer's first choice. That's our focus," he says. "We're not trying to be everything to everybody, we're trying to focus on our customers' needs and we're doing that well. We're already getting double digit gains out of shoes, so we're investing in a business that's already very successful for us."
Belk opened its doors in Albany in 1937 and later moved to its current Albany Mall location in 1976.
