BBB: online purchases are riskiest type of fraud
The Better Business Bureau released reports stating the top way people are trying to steal your money is through online purchases.
In 2017, more than 47,000 reports were made to the Better Business Bureau fraud tracker.
The most common fraudulent online purchases were related to pets, clothing, cosmetics, electronics, and automobiles.
People trying to take your money online often use tactics including: a promise on a great deal, pressure to respond immediately and intimidation.
"Take an opportunity to step back and ask yourself where is the product coming from,” BBB President Kelvin Collins said. “Is it a reliable company that you are spending money with?"
Tax collection fraud decreased 60 percent from 2016 to 2017.
