Banned Book List in Local Libaries

Should books be banned at all? / Kyle Proctor

In our Facebook Story of the Day, you wanted to know what books are banned in local libaries.

Every year, the American Library Association posts a list of banned books and many of the books listed are percieved as objectionable because of how they discuss topics such as sex, profanity, religion, or racism.

The Dougherty County Pubic Library System does not have a banned book list, but they did share with us how they determine which books they bring into their system.

Erin Hunt of the Dougherty County Library System says "We do have a selection process where they look at reivews from publishers from professional reviewers and then we see how it would fit into our and see how people could find it useful."

Books found on the banned list include 'Beloved', 'To Kill a Mockingbird' and 'Awakening'; however, those books are all included the Dougherty County Library System.
