A Colquitt County man was taken into custody after making a bad situation even worse.
According to the Moultrie Observer George Mendez ran his Nissan Pathfinder into a ditch off Newton Road causing his vehicle to get stuck.
The deputy responding to the scene also found a forklift in the ditch; one that Mendez allegedly using to get his SUV out.
The deputy asked Mendez where the forklift came from and he claimed a nearby resident let him use it. After talking to the owner of the forklift, the deputy figured out Mendez didn't ask to borrow it; no one was even home during the time of the incident.
Mendez was charged with driving under the influence, driving without a license, leaving the scene of an accident, no insurance, open container, seat belt violation, and failure to drive in a single lane. The incident is still under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
