It didn't take long for the first baby to be born in Sumter County in 2014 as Kate Susanna Tam entered the world Wednesday at 2:03 am at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.

Baby Kate weighed in at 6 pounds, 15 ounces and was measured at 19 inches long.

According to her parents Jonathan and Rebecca, little Kate came a little earlier than expected.

"My due date was January 10th, so she was a very pleasant surprise on New Year's Day," said Rebecca. "We definitely want to thank Dr. Patricia Fennessy and the OB staff at Phoebe Sumter for helping bring our new bundle of joy into the world."

As the New Year's baby, little Kate will receive a plaque and gifts from the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.
