ASU Welcomes Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
An Albany State University alumna is bringing 35 years of higher education and public sector experience to her alma mater as the new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Dr. Beverly C. Edmond, a 1971 Albany State College graduate officially began duties July 1.
She served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Alabama A&M University from 2006 to 2010 and as Interim President at Alabama A&M University from 2008 to 2009. Edmond's academic career also includes several key leadership roles at Clark Atlanta University as Vice Provost, Title III Director, Associate Provost and chair of the Department of Public Administration.
She succeeds Dr. Richard Green who served as Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and is the senior member of the President's leadership team and cabinet. "I am thrilled that Dr. Edmond has joined our team because of her enormous wellspring of knowledge and experience earned in academia and in government service. She is warm, friendly, outgoing and keenly interested in student success," said ASU President Dr. Everette J. Freeman.
Edmond delivered the keynote address at the university's faculty and staff conference held August 8 and 9 in the ACAD Auditorium. The new provost earned an undergraduate degree in sociology at ASU, a master's degree in public administration at the University of Pittsburgh and a doctorate in political science with a public administration concentration from Georgia State University.
