Incoming Albany State University freshmen got lessons on how to prepare for college at a morning assembly where speakers included campus police and jail inmates.

"This whole week is welcome week, and we're having these sessions about the events that are going to be going on here about college preparedness," said Janecia Hill, an incoming freshman from Columbus. "We're going to have speakers that are going to come talk to us about things we need to know that are going to be beneficial to us

The assembly was part of a weeklong series of orientation events for the university's approximately 1100 freshmen.

The inmates from the Dougherty County Jail talked to students about staying out of trouble.
