The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Dawson Police Department have made an arrest in a murder case that just passed it's fifth anniversary.

GBI officials say that on January 5th, 2008, long-time Dawson resident Lucious Buchanan was found dead inside his home on First Avenue due to a gun shot.

Officials add that the two agencies have been actively investigating the case by conducting interviews and following leads.

The investigation has led to arrest warrants being issued in December 2012 for 37-year-old Derrick Smith, for the charges of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and armed robbery.

Smith is currently being held in the Lee County jail on unrelated charges. Authorities say that it is anticipated he will be returned to Terrell County in April to answer to these charges.
