Arrest made in 21-year-old Fitzgerald murder

A 21-year-old murder case is a step closer to being solved after an arrest by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

49-year-old Octavious Rivera has been arrested for the May 1996 death of then 27-year-old Bridgett Parker.

Parker was found behind a vacant mobile home on Lulaville Road in Fitzgerald.

The Ben Hill County Sheriff's Office and the GBI began investigating the incident, but no evidence or witnesses were located to link a subject to the death of Parker despite a large amount of tips and hours spent on the case.

However, in the 21 years since the murder, forensic technology has improved and the GBI conducted a review of the full case file and resubmitted evidence for testing.

This testing lead to new interviews and leads which investigators say led them to Rivera.

Rivera now faces one charge of murder.
